A difficult forgiveness to fathom.

As Holy Week draws near, I am compelled to dwell on the mercy Christ has shown me (while we were yet sinners, he died for us, you know?). As it happens, in today’s paper, there is an illustration of mercy — a difficult forgiveness to fathom.

It’s in a letter by the dad of a 16-year-old boy who died last week in a car crash, written to the driver at fault for the crash. Click the title of this post (or click here) to read it.

This hits close to home. We lost my two year old niece on Jan 3rd to injuries sustained in an auto accident caused by icy road conditions a couple of days before that. The outpouring of love, support , and prayers was overwhelming. While it wasn’t a letter to a newspaper, the day after she left us my father thanked everyone for their support. He asked for prayers for the gentlemen that hit my sister’s vehicle as he did not ask to bear the cross he was now bearing.
